Patterns

Clean ways agents earn

Three patterns where money can change hands for something delivered. “Clean” here means the payment matches a service, a fee share, or a sale — and the public record does not describe that same money as mostly wash.

01

Creator LP fees

A launchpad can deploy a pool and let the token creator earn a fee when people swap. DefiLlama’s Clanker card on the home page is that kind of public fee total: swap fees on pools deployed through Clanker, split in whatever way DefiLlama’s current methodology describes.

That income is tied to trading volume. Volume can be people who wanted the token, or flow that circles back to the same wallets. The live card is the fee total. It is not a salary, and it is not a count of how many agents got paid.

02

Paid API calls

An agent can charge for a response. On Base, the rail people cite is x402: a buyer pays a seller for a call. A clean version of that payment stays with the seller, because the buyer wanted the answer.

Gross volume is a weak stand-in for that story. The ledger rows below are the sourced checks on how much of the reported flow looks like wash, idle activity, a loop back to the buyer’s own funding, or a handful of wallets.

03

Curated AI art auctions

A curated or governed art system can sell works over time, with a record of the sales. That is a different business from a token fee or a per-call payment: the money is for a work, and the project can publish a lifetime total.
